Threading
the Ether
A Cantata in 9 Movements
Threading the Ether is a unique creation, difficult to categorize.
You'll hear the familiar Luminous World Orchestra sound where
the soothing, undulating textures and majestic warmth of a
Symphony Orchestra, combined with the gentle, lyrical melodies
of instruments from all corners of the world, resonate together
in a blissful interplay of sound. However, in “Threading
the Ether”, a choir is added to the orchestra.
But what’s most different from the other Luminous World
Orchestra recordings, where there is a highly distilled simplicity
and a great holding back of passions, "Threading the
Ether" is a deeply personal piece fraught with longing
and deep spiritual feeling.
“Threading the Ether” contains more counterpoint
and complexity of texture, and the emotional palate is wider.
This piece is still softly contemplative, but simply more
“stops” have been pulled out.
As always, the colors of The Luminous World Orchestra range
from the velvety strings of violins, cellos, and Chinese Erhu
fiddle, to the sweet breathy tones of Japanese and Native
American flutes, from delicately plucked guitar and harp to
the round, ringing vibrations of Balinese Gamelan gongs...
...a sweetly colorful, meditative journey. The unique music
of The Luminous World Orchestra, led by film composer Steven
Chesne, is spiritually inspiring, and gently empowering.
